IEEE-1394 FireWire cameras Connection Older machine vision cameras use IEEE-1394 (aka FireWire). Connectors are identical but this technology is different from the consumer cameras connected by IEEE-1394. Usually one camera is run per IEEE-1394 bus. Cable IEEE-1394 cable length is limited to 10-20 m, and cameras are powered through the data cable.

640x480 @ 100 fps
Cameras can be used at higher frame rates by reducing the image size.

Mobile systems
Notebook computers can typically handle 2-3 cameras.

Desktop systems
Modern computer systems can typically handle 6+ cameras.

IEEE-1394 cameras are not recommended any more, but you can still use your existing cameras.
